Who we are

Playcritik publishes original game reviews and related features. We are the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us any time at hello@playcritik.com.

Information we collect

Account data: if you create an account with an email and password or with Google sign-in, we store your email address, the username you choose, and an account identifier. Accounts are managed through Supabase, our database and authentication provider.

Community activity: when you use reader features we store what you submit, linked to your account. This includes your reader ratings, comments, wishlist, review requests and votes, and your daily-puzzle stats.

Newsletter: if you subscribe, we store your email address to send you the newsletter. Sending is handled by Brevo, our email provider, and we keep a backup copy in our database.

Technical data: our host, Cloudflare, processes standard request information such as your IP address and browser type to deliver and protect the site. We also use local storage in your browser to remember your daily-puzzle progress and to keep you signed in.

Advertising

We display advertising to support the site, including ads served by Google. Google is a third-party vendor on Playcritik.

Google uses cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings at https://www.google.com/settings/ads, and you can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Third-party vendors and ad networks other than Google may also serve ads on this site and may set their own cookies or similar technologies to measure and show ads. That use is governed by each network's own privacy policy, and many can be disabled at https://www.aboutads.info/choices.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before personalised advertising cookies are set, using a consent management platform certified by Google. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time from the consent link in the banner.

We may also show direct sponsorships sold by us. Sponsored placements are labelled as such and never influence our editorial scores or verdicts.

Third-party data and embeds

We show official game facts, images, and trailers sourced from Steam, IGDB, and YouTube, and we link to store deals via CheapShark. When media is embedded or you follow a link, that third party may receive data (such as your IP address) under its own policy. Playcritik is not affiliated with Valve, IGDB, YouTube, or the publishers featured.

How we use your information

We use your information to run your account and the community features, to send the newsletter and the wishlist launch and price-drop alerts you asked for, to keep the site secure, and to improve what we offer. We do not sell your personal information.

Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in every email. You can ask us to access, correct, or delete your account and the data linked to it by emailing hello@playcritik.com. Deleting your account removes your community data.

Cookies and local storage

We use local storage and cookies that are needed to sign you in and to remember your puzzle progress. Third-party advertising or embedded media may set additional cookies as described above.

Children

Playcritik is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age required by their local law. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will remove it.

Data retention

We keep account and community data while your account is active, and newsletter data until you unsubscribe. We remove data sooner on request, subject to any legal obligations.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. We will change the date at the top when we do, and significant changes will be made clear on this page.
